These four 74HC series DIP-20 bus interface ICs are the essential building blocks for data bus buffering, level shifting, and data latching in digital systems. SN74HC245N – Octal Bus Transceiver (Non-Inverting, 3-State)
- 8 bidirectional buffers with tri-state outputs
- Direction control (DIR): HIGH = A→B, LOW = B→A

- Use cases: Bidirectional data bus buffering, 3.3V↔5V level shifting, bus isolation

SN74HC373N – Octal Transparent D-Type Latch (3-State)
- 8 D-type latches with common latch enable (LE) and output enable (̅O̅E̅)
- Transparent when LE is HIGH – outputs follow inputs
- Latches data when LE goes LOW – outputs hold last state
- Use cases: Address latching in multiplexed bus systems, data bus demultiplexing
SN74HC374N – Octal D-Type Flip-Flop (3-State, Positive Edge-Triggered)
- 8 D-type flip-flops with common clock (CLK) and output enable (̅O̅E̅)
- Data captured on rising clock edge – synchronous operation
- Use cases: Output port registers, pipeline registers, synchronous data bus latching
- Preferred over 74HC373 for synchronous systems (clock-edge triggered vs level-sensitive)
