TL084CN Quad JFET Op-Amp IC – DIP-14
The TL084CN is a quad JFET-input operational amplifier – four high-performance op-amps in a single DIP-14 package, sharing the same low-noise JFET input architecture as the popular TL072 dual op-amp. With a 3MHz gain-bandwidth product, 13V/μs slew rate, and very low input bias current (65pA typical), the TL084 is an excellent choice for audio circuits, active filters, and precision signal processing where four op-amp channels are needed in one package.
Electrical Specifications
- Part Number: TL084CN / TL084 / TL084ACN
- Package: DIP-14 (through-hole, 2.54mm pitch)
- Number of Op-Amps: 4 (quad)
- Input Type: JFET (very low input bias current: ~65pA)
- Supply Voltage: ±2.25V to ±18V (dual supply)
- GBW: 3 MHz (typical)
- Slew Rate: 13 V/μs (typical)
- Input Offset Voltage: 3mV (typical)
- Input Bias Current: 65pA (typical) – 26× lower than UA741
- Operating Temperature: 0°C to +70°C
TL084 vs TL074 – Are They the Same?
The TL084 and TL074 are functionally nearly identical – same JFET input architecture, same GBW (3MHz), same slew rate (13V/μs). The TL074 has slightly tighter specifications (lower offset voltage, lower noise) and is pin-compatible. In most audio and general-purpose applications, TL084 and TL074 are interchangeable.
Typical Applications
- Audio mixing: 4-channel summing amplifier stages
- Active crossovers: Multi-band filter design for speaker systems
- Synthesizers / Eurorack: VCF, VCA, envelope follower, and mixer stages
- Active filters: Sallen-Key and MFB filter banks
- Instrumentation: Multi-channel signal conditioning
- Guitar effects: Multi-stage overdrive, EQ, and modulation circuits
