W25N02KVZEIR 256MB (2G-bit) Serial NAND Flash — Teensy 4.1 Memory Expansion
The Winbond W25N02KVZEIR is a 256MB (2G-bit) SPI NAND Flash memory IC designed to expand the non-volatile storage on the Teensy 4.1 development board. The Teensy 4.1 PCB includes a dedicated footprint for one of these 8-pin flash chips, enabling large-capacity data storage for sensor logging, audio files, image files, and LittleFS file system applications — without any additional wiring.

Teensy 4.1 Installation Notes
- The Teensy 4.1 has a dedicated SOIC-8 footprint on the bottom of the board for this chip
- The W25N02KVZEIR uses a WSON package (leads tucked under the chip) — it can be soldered to the SOIC footprint with care
- Solder and test before installing header pins — access to the bottom pads is much easier before headers are soldered
- Use the LittleFS library for file system access on Teensy 4.1
Typical Applications
- Teensy 4.1 non-volatile data storage expansion
- Large sensor data logging (LittleFS file system)
- Audio file storage for Teensy Audio Library projects
- Image and bitmap file storage for display projects
- Configuration and firmware update storage
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can this be used to expand Teensy 4.1 program memory?
No — NAND Flash cannot be used to execute code directly. It is used for data storage only (files, logs, audio, images) via the LittleFS library. Program code must remain in the Teensy's internal flash.
Q: Is soldering difficult?
The WSON package has no exposed leads — all contacts are on the bottom of the chip. Use flux, a fine-tip iron, and solder wick. Soldering before installing header pins is strongly recommended for easier access and inspection.
