ZB2L3 Lithium Battery Capacity Tester — 1.2V–12V, 18650 / Lead-Acid Discharge Meter
The ZB2L3 is a battery capacity tester that measures the actual usable capacity (mAh) of rechargeable batteries by performing a controlled discharge test. It supports battery voltages from 1.2V to 12V, covering single-cell NiMH/NiCd (1.2V), single-cell Li-ion/LiPo (3.7V), 2S LiPo (7.4V), 3S LiPo (11.1V), and 6V/12V lead-acid batteries. The tester discharges the battery through an external load resistor and measures the total charge delivered (mAh) until the battery reaches the programmed cutoff voltage.

Typical Applications
- 18650 Cell Grading: Test the actual capacity of used or salvaged 18650 cells before using them in DIY power banks or battery packs — identify weak cells that should be discarded
- Power Bank Verification: Verify the actual capacity of power bank cells versus the advertised specification
- RC Battery Testing: Test LiPo battery packs for RC cars, drones, and aircraft to identify capacity degradation and determine when to replace the pack
- Lead-Acid Battery Health Check: Test 6V and 12V lead-acid batteries (SLA, AGM, gel) for actual capacity versus rated capacity to assess battery health
- NiMH Battery Sorting: Sort NiMH AA/AAA cells by actual capacity for matched battery packs in high-drain devices
How to Use
- Fully charge the battery before testing
- Connect the battery to the ZB2L3 input terminals (observe polarity)
- Connect an external load resistor to the load terminals (R = V_battery / I_discharge, e.g., 3Ω for ~1A discharge from a 3.7V cell)
- Set the cutoff voltage using the buttons (refer to the table above for your battery chemistry)
- Press START — the tester will discharge the battery and display the accumulated mAh capacity
- The tester stops automatically when the battery voltage reaches the cutoff voltage
FAQ
Q: Does the ZB2L3 include a load resistor?
A: No. An external load resistor must be connected to the load terminals. Use a power resistor rated for the expected discharge current and power dissipation (P = I² × R). A 3Ω / 5W resistor is suitable for ~1A discharge from a single Li-ion cell.
Q: Can I test a 12V car battery with this tester?
A: Yes, for small 12V SLA/AGM batteries. For large automotive batteries, the discharge current from a practical load resistor will be very low, making the test impractically slow. Use a dedicated automotive battery load tester for large lead-acid batteries.
