TL061 / TL062 / TL071 / TL072 / TL081 / TL082 — JFET-Input Op-Amp DIP-8 ICs, 5 Pieces

The TL-series operational amplifiers from Texas Instruments are among the most widely used JFET-input op-amps in analog electronics, prized for their high input impedance, low input bias current, and excellent AC performance. The JFET input stage eliminates the input bias current problems of bipolar op-amps, making TL-series ICs ideal for high-impedance sensor interfaces, active filters, audio preamplifiers, and precision signal conditioning circuits.

All six variants share the same DIP-8 pinout and are pin-compatible within their sub-families (single/dual). Select the specific variant from the dropdown. 5 pieces per pack.

IC Selection Guide

  • TL061 — Single Ultra-Low Power JFET Op-Amp: Supply current ~200µA (vs. ~1.4mA for TL071). GBW ~1MHz. Ideal for battery-powered circuits where quiescent current is critical. Single op-amp in DIP-8. Trade-off: lower slew rate (3.5V/µs) and higher noise than TL071.
  • TL062 — Dual Ultra-Low Power JFET Op-Amp: Dual version of TL061 in DIP-8. Two independent op-amps sharing one package. Supply current ~400µA total. For battery-powered dual-channel applications (stereo audio, differential sensing).
  • TL071 — Single Low-Noise JFET Op-Amp: The most popular single JFET op-amp. GBW = 3MHz, slew rate = 13V/µs, input noise voltage = 18nV/√Hz. Supply ±2.25V to ±18V. Excellent for audio preamplifiers, active filters, and instrumentation front-ends. Direct replacement for µA741 with superior performance.
  • TL072 — Dual Low-Noise JFET Op-Amp: Dual version of TL071 in DIP-8. The industry standard for dual-channel audio circuits — used in virtually every analog synthesizer, guitar effects pedal, and audio mixer ever designed. GBW = 3MHz, slew rate = 13V/µs. Pin-compatible with NE5532 (bipolar) but with higher input impedance.
  • TL081 — Single General-Purpose JFET Op-Amp: Similar to TL071 but with slightly higher noise and lower cost. GBW = 3MHz, slew rate = 13V/µs. Supply ±2.25V to ±18V. Suitable for general-purpose amplification, comparators, and non-critical audio applications.
  • TL082 — Dual General-Purpose JFET Op-Amp: Dual version of TL081. Two independent op-amps in DIP-8. Cost-effective choice for dual-channel circuits where the lower noise of TL072 is not required. Widely used in power supply error amplifiers, oscillators, and waveform generators.

Key Specifications Comparison

  • TL061/062: VCC = ±2.25–18V, Icc ≈ 200µA/amp, GBW ≈ 1MHz, SR = 3.5V/µs, Vn = 42nV/√Hz
  • TL071/081: VCC = ±2.25–18V, Icc ≈ 1.4mA, GBW = 3MHz, SR = 13V/µs, Vn = 18nV/√Hz (TL071)
  • TL072/082: Same as TL071/081 but dual package; Icc ≈ 2.8mA total
  • Input Bias Current: ~65pA (JFET input — 1000× lower than bipolar op-amps)
  • Input Offset Voltage: 3–15mV typical
  • CMRR: 86dB typical
  • Output Short-Circuit Protected: Yes (internal current limiting)
  • Package: DIP-8 (through-hole, 2.54mm pitch)
  • Operating Temperature: 0°C to +70°C (C-grade) / −40°C to +85°C (I-grade)

Standard DIP-8 Pinout (Single Op-Amp: TL061/071/081)

  • Pin 1 — OFFSET N1: Offset null (connect 10kΩ pot between pins 1 and 5, wiper to V−)
  • Pin 2 — IN−: Inverting input
  • Pin 3 — IN+: Non-inverting input
  • Pin 4 — V−: Negative supply (or GND for single-supply)
  • Pin 5 — OFFSET N2: Offset null
  • Pin 6 — OUT: Output
  • Pin 7 — V+: Positive supply
  • Pin 8 — N/C: No connection

Standard DIP-8 Pinout (Dual Op-Amp: TL062/072/082)

  • Pin 1 — OUT A: Output, amplifier A
  • Pin 2 — IN− A: Inverting input, amplifier A
  • Pin 3 — IN+ A: Non-inverting input, amplifier A
  • Pin 4 — V−: Negative supply
  • Pin 5 — IN+ B: Non-inverting input, amplifier B
  • Pin 6 — IN− B: Inverting input, amplifier B
  • Pin 7 — OUT B: Output, amplifier B
  • Pin 8 — V+: Positive supply

Single-Supply Operation

TL-series op-amps are designed for dual-supply (±V) operation but can work from a single supply with proper biasing. Connect V− (pin 4) to GND, V+ (pin 7/8) to supply (5–36V). Bias the non-inverting input to mid-supply (V+/2) using a resistor divider. AC-couple input and output signals. Minimum single-supply voltage: 4.5V (for ±2.25V equivalent).

Decoupling Best Practices

  • Place 100nF ceramic capacitor between V+ and GND, and 100nF between V− and GND, as close to the IC supply pins as possible
  • Add 10µF electrolytic in parallel for low-frequency decoupling in audio circuits
  • Keep feedback resistors short and close to the IC to minimize parasitic capacitance and oscillation risk

Typical Applications

  • TL071/072: Audio preamplifier, active crossover filter, guitar effects pedal (overdrive, EQ, chorus), analog synthesizer VCF/VCA, instrumentation amplifier
  • TL061/062: Battery-powered sensor interface, portable audio device, low-power data acquisition front-end
  • TL081/082: General-purpose amplifier, comparator (with hysteresis), waveform generator, power supply error amplifier, oscillator
  • All variants: Active low-pass/high-pass/band-pass filters (Sallen-Key, MFB topology), integrators, differentiators, voltage followers (unity gain buffer), Schmitt triggers
