TPIC6B595N DIP-20 Power Logic 8-Bit Shift Register IC — 2pcs
The TPIC6B595N is a Texas Instruments power logic 8-bit serial-in, parallel-out shift register with open-drain outputs rated at 50V / 150mA per output. Unlike the standard 74HC595 logic-level shift register, the TPIC6B595N can directly drive high-current loads including LEDs, relays, solenoids, and small motors without an external transistor driver stage. SPI-compatible serial interface (SIN, SCLK, RCK) allows daisy-chaining multiple TPIC6B595N ICs for expanded output count. Supplied as a 2-piece pack in DIP-20 through-hole package.

Typical Applications
- LED Matrix Driver: Drive 8 LEDs per TPIC6B595N at up to 150mA each — daisy-chain multiple ICs for large LED matrix displays without external transistors
- Relay Driver: Control up to 8 relay coils per IC via SPI from Arduino or ESP32, with open-drain outputs providing the current sink for relay coil activation
- Solenoid Control: Drive solenoid valves and solenoid actuators directly from the TPIC6B595N open-drain outputs with a flyback diode for inductive load protection
- 7-Segment Display: Drive 7-segment LED displays with high brightness (high current) without external current-limiting transistors
- SPI Output Expander: Expand Arduino or ESP32 digital output count via SPI with high-current capability for industrial control applications
Arduino Wiring
- VCC → 5V | GND → GND | /G (output enable) → GND (always enabled)
- SIN → Arduino D11 (MOSI) | SCLK → D13 (SCK) | RCK → D10 (SS)
- Connect load between each output pin (drain) and VCC (or load supply voltage up to 50V)
- Add flyback diode across inductive loads (relays, solenoids)
- Use
SPI.transfer(byte);to shift 8 bits into the register
FAQ
Q: Can I use the TPIC6B595N as a drop-in replacement for the 74HC595?
A: The TPIC6B595N is pin-compatible with the 74HC595 but has open-drain (active-low sink) outputs instead of push-pull outputs. Loads must be connected between the output pin and the positive supply (not to GND). Existing 74HC595 circuits driving LEDs to GND will need to be rewired for the TPIC6B595N.
