23LC1024T 1Mbit SPI SRAM — Teensy Audio Adapter Board Memory Expansion
The Microchip 23LC1024T is a 1Mbit (128KB) SPI SRAM designed to expand the working memory on the Teensy Audio Adapter Board. The Audio Adapter has a dedicated footprint for this chip, enabling longer audio delay buffers for reverb, delay, echo, and chorus effects in Teensy Audio Library projects. Unlike Flash memory, SRAM provides unlimited read/write cycles with no wear — ideal for real-time audio buffer applications.

Teensy Audio Adapter Installation
- The Teensy Audio Adapter Board has a dedicated SOP-8 footprint for this chip
- Install before assembling the adapter to the Teensy board for easier soldering access
- Required for AudioEffectDelay and AudioEffectReverb with longer delay times in the Teensy Audio Library
- Without this chip, delay effects are limited to the MCU’s internal SRAM
SRAM vs Flash — Why SRAM for Audio Buffers?
- Unlimited write cycles — audio buffers are written thousands of times per second; Flash would wear out quickly
- Fast random access — SRAM allows byte-level read/write at full SPI speed without erase cycles
- Volatile — data is lost on power-off, which is fine for real-time audio buffers
Typical Applications
- Teensy Audio Adapter reverb and delay effect buffer expansion
- Real-time audio echo and chorus effect memory
- SPI SRAM for any 3.3V microcontroller project requiring fast external RAM
- Data buffering in high-speed data acquisition systems
