FT232RL USB to TTL Serial Interface Adapter — 3.3V / 5V
The FT232RL USB to TTL serial adapter is the gold standard for USB-to-serial conversion, based on the FTDI FT232RL chip — the most reliable and widely supported USB-to-serial IC available. Converts USB to 3.3V or 5V TTL UART for programming Arduino Pro Mini, ESP8266 ESP-01, and any UART microcontroller. Includes DTR and RTS pins for automatic reset during Arduino programming. Supported natively on macOS and Linux without driver installation.
Key Specifications
- IC: FTDI FT232RL | Interface: USB ↔ TTL UART
- Logic voltage: 3.3V or 5V (jumper selectable)
- Baud rate: up to 3Mbps
- Pins: TX / RX / DTR / RTS / CTS / 3.3V / 5V / GND
- Driver: Native on macOS & Linux; VCP driver on Windows
- Compliance: RoHS compliant
Why Choose FT232RL Over CH340 or CP2102?
- ✅ FTDI FT232RL — the most reliable USB-serial chip, used in official Arduino boards
- ✅ Native macOS & Linux support — no driver installation needed on modern systems
- ✅ Up to 3Mbps — fastest baud rate of any common USB-serial adapter
- ✅ DTR pin — automatic reset for seamless Arduino Pro Mini programming
- ✅ Full signal breakout — TX/RX/DTR/RTS/CTS for complete UART control
Typical Applications
- Arduino Pro Mini programming via USB (the standard method)
- ESP8266 ESP-01 firmware flashing
- UART microcontroller programming and serial debugging
- Serial terminal communication with embedded devices
- High-speed UART data logging at up to 3Mbps
