M3 Knurled Brass Insert Nut — 5.7mm Height, 4.6mm OD for 3D Printer Heat Set & Injection Molding
The M3 knurled brass heat-set insert nut creates a strong, durable M3 threaded insert in 3D printed plastic parts (PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, Nylon) and injection-moulded components. The knurled outer surface bites into the surrounding plastic as the insert is pressed in with a soldering iron or heat-set tool, creating a permanent, pull-out-resistant threaded insert that is far stronger than threading directly into plastic.

Why Choose Brass Heat-Set Insert Nuts?
- 10× stronger than plastic threads — brass insert provides metal-to-metal thread engagement; eliminates thread stripping in 3D printed parts under repeated assembly/disassembly
- Diamond knurl — cross-hatch knurl pattern provides anti-rotation AND anti-pull-out resistance in all directions
- Heat-set installation — soldering iron melts surrounding plastic; insert flows in and locks permanently on cooling; no adhesive required
- Brass material — excellent machinability, corrosion resistance, and thermal conductivity for reliable heat-set installation
- M3 — most common 3D printer size — M3 is the standard thread for Voron, Bambu Lab, Prusa, and most FDM printer frame and enclosure assembly

Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: What hole size should I design in my 3D printed part for M3 inserts?
- A: For a 4.6mm OD insert, design the hole at 4.0–4.2mm diameter. The insert should require light pressure to start; if it drops in freely, the hole is too large. Print the hole vertically (parallel to print layers) for best results.
- Q: What temperature should I set my soldering iron for heat-set installation?
- A: PLA: 200–230°C; PETG: 230–250°C; ABS/ASA: 240–270°C. Apply the iron to the top of the insert and press slowly and evenly until the insert is flush with or slightly below the surface. Remove the iron and allow to cool for 30 seconds before applying load.
- Q: Can I use these in injection-moulded parts?
- A: Yes. Brass knurled inserts can be installed in injection-moulded thermoplastic parts using a heat-set tool or ultrasonic insertion equipment. They are also suitable for press-fit installation in some materials. Consult your material datasheet for recommended installation method.
