Default Title

3–28V 15A Ideal Diode Module — Anti-Reverse & Anti-Backflow Battery Charging Protection

An ideal diode module is a MOSFET-based circuit that replicates the one-way current flow of a diode — but with a dramatically lower voltage drop. A standard Schottky diode drops 0.3–0.5V at high current, wasting power as heat. This 3–28V 15A ideal diode module uses a low-RDS(on) MOSFET controlled by a dedicated ideal diode controller IC to achieve a forward voltage drop of just millivolts at full current — improving system efficiency, reducing heat generation, and eliminating the power loss that makes conventional diodes impractical in high-current solar and battery charging applications.

Ideal Diode vs. Schottky Diode — Why It Matters at 15A

Property Ideal Diode Module (this product) Schottky Diode (e.g., MBR1545)
Forward voltage drop at 15A ~10–50mV ~450–600mV
Power loss at 15A 0.15–0.75W 6.75–9W
Heat generation Minimal Significant (heatsink required)
Efficiency impact Negligible Measurable (especially in 12V systems)
Reverse blocking Yes (MOSFET gate control) Yes (diode junction)
Complexity Module (plug-and-play) Single component

In a 12V / 15A solar charging system, a Schottky diode wastes up to 9W as heat — equivalent to 75% of a 12W solar panel’s output. The ideal diode module reduces this loss to under 1W.

Key Features

  • Ultra-low forward voltage drop — millivolt-level drop vs. 0.3–0.5V for Schottky diodes at the same current
  • 15A continuous current — handles high-current solar panel and battery charging applications
  • 3–28V input range — covers 6V, 12V, and 24V battery and solar systems
  • Anti-reverse protection — prevents reverse current from damaging solar panels or power sources
  • Anti-backflow protection — prevents battery discharging back through solar panel at night or during cloud cover
  • Fast MOSFET switching — microsecond response to reverse current conditions
  • No heatsink required — minimal power dissipation eliminates the heatsink needed for equivalent Schottky diodes

Common Applications

  • Solar panel anti-backflow — prevents battery discharging through the solar panel at night
  • Battery charging protection — prevents reverse current from damaging the charging source
  • Power supply OR-ing — connect multiple power supplies in parallel without cross-conduction
  • Battery backup switching — seamless switchover from mains to battery without voltage drop
  • Reverse polarity protection — protects downstream circuits from accidental reverse connection
  • Wind turbine charge controller — prevents reverse current during low-wind conditions
  • Multi-source energy harvesting — combine solar, wind, and battery sources without cross-discharge

Wiring Guide

  1. Connect the positive terminal of your power source (solar panel, charger) to the module INPUT+.
  2. Connect INPUT− to the negative terminal of your power source.
  3. Connect OUTPUT+ to the positive terminal of your battery or load.
  4. Connect OUTPUT− to the negative terminal of your battery or load.
  5. Current flows freely from input to output; reverse current is blocked automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I use this instead of a Schottky diode in my solar charge controller?
A: Yes. The ideal diode module is a direct functional replacement for the anti-backflow Schottky diode in solar charge controllers, with significantly lower power loss.

Q: Does this module work with lithium battery systems?
A: Yes. The 3–28V input range covers 1S–6S lithium battery systems (3.7V–22.2V nominal). Ensure the maximum voltage does not exceed 28V.

Q: Can I connect two modules in parallel for 30A?
A: Yes. Connect two modules in parallel (input to input, output to output) to double the current capacity to 30A.
