LM35DZ TO-92 Precision Centigrade Temperature Sensor — 0°C to +100°C

The LM35DZ is a precision analog temperature sensor from Texas Instruments in a TO-92 through-hole package. It outputs a voltage linearly proportional to temperature at exactly 10mV/°C, calibrated directly in Celsius — no offset subtraction required unlike TMP36. Accuracy is ±0.5°C typical over the 0°C to +100°C range.

Why Choose LM35DZ?

  • Direct Celsius Output — No offset math needed: Temp(°C) = Vout(mV) / 10
  • High Accuracy — ±0.5°C typical, ±1°C max over full range
  • No Calibration Required — Factory-trimmed, ready to use
  • Low Self-Heating — 60μA supply current, <0.1°C self-heating in still air
  • TO-92 Package — Breadboard-friendly, easy prototyping

Typical Applications

  • Arduino/ESP32 temperature monitoring and data logging
  • HVAC thermostat and climate control systems
  • Industrial process temperature monitoring
  • Battery and motor thermal protection
  • Weather stations and environmental sensors
  • Medical and laboratory temperature measurement

Arduino Example

float voltage = analogRead(A0) * (5.0 / 1023.0);
float tempC = voltage * 100.0; // 10mV per °C

FAQ

Q: Why does LM35DZ read negative values on 5V Arduino?
A: LM35DZ cannot measure below 0°C on single-supply without a negative bias. For sub-zero, use LM35CZ or TMP36.

Q: Can I use LM35DZ with 3.3V supply?
A: No — minimum supply is 4V. Use TMP36 or LM35CAZ for 3.3V systems.
