Bootstrap High-Side Drive Explained
IR2104S, IR2153S, and IR2106S use a bootstrap capacitor to generate the high-side gate drive voltage above the bus rail. The bootstrap diode charges the capacitor during the low-side on-time, enabling true high-side N-channel MOSFET switching without an isolated gate drive supply — simplifying half-bridge design significantly.
IR2153S Self-Oscillating Operation
The IR2153S integrates a deadtime-controlled oscillator set by a single external resistor (RT) and capacitor (CT): f = 1/(1.4 × RT × CT). This makes it ideal for fixed-frequency resonant converters and electronic ballasts where no microcontroller is available or desired.
