LM2596S DC-DC Adjustable Step-Down Buck Converter — 3A, Power Supply Regulator Module

A DC-DC step-down (buck) converter module based on the Texas Instruments LM2596S switching regulator IC, providing adjustable output voltage from 1.25V to 37V at up to 3A continuous output current from a 4.5V–40V input. The onboard trimmer potentiometer allows continuous output voltage adjustment. The LM2596S operates at a fixed 150kHz switching frequency, providing a good balance between efficiency, component size, and output ripple. Suitable for Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and embedded system power supply, battery charging, and general-purpose DC voltage conversion.

Q: Does this module need a heatsink?
A: At loads above 2A, the LM2596S IC may run warm. Attach a small heatsink to the IC for continuous 3A operation, especially when the input-output voltage difference is large (e.g., 24V in, 5V out at 3A = 57W input, 15W output, 42W dissipated).
