LCD1602 16×2 Character LCD Display — Blue Backlight, Parallel Interface
The classic LCD1602 16×2 character LCD display with HD44780 controller and blue backlight — the most widely used text display in Arduino and electronics education. Displays 16 characters across 2 lines using the standard HD44780 parallel interface. Compatible with the Arduino LiquidCrystal library out of the box. Add an I2C backpack (PCF8574) to reduce wiring to 2 wires.
Key Specifications
- Display: 16 characters × 2 lines | Controller: HD44780
- Interface: 4-bit or 8-bit parallel | Pins: 16-pin header
- Supply: 5V | Backlight: Blue with white characters
- Contrast: Adjustable via pin 3 (V0)
- Library: LiquidCrystal (Arduino built-in)
- Compliance: RoHS compliant
Parallel vs I2C LCD
- Parallel (this model): Uses 6–8 Arduino pins — maximum compatibility, no extra IC
- I2C (with backpack): Uses only 2 pins (SDA/SCL) — add PCF8574 I2C adapter to this display
Typical Applications
- Arduino project status and data display
- Temperature, humidity, and sensor data readout
- Menu navigation display for Arduino projects
- Clock and timer display
- Electronics education and learning projects
