304 A2-70 Stainless Steel Torx Six-Lobe Pin Security Self-Tapping Screw — M2.9–M4.8 | Tamper-Resistant

Tamper-resistant Torx six-lobe (T*) pin security self-tapping screws in 304 A2-70 stainless steel — combining the corrosion resistance of marine-grade stainless steel with the tamper-resistance of the pin-in-Torx drive system. The centre pin in the Torx socket prevents standard Torx drivers from engaging, requiring a specialist pin-in-Torx (T* or TR) bit for installation and removal. This makes these screws ideal for outdoor equipment, public installations, and any application where unauthorised access or vandalism is a concern. The self-tapping thread cuts into wood, plastic, and thin sheet metal without pre-tapping. Available in M2.9, M3.5, M3.9, M4.2, and M4.8 diameters with lengths from 8mm to 60mm.

304 A2-70 Stainless Steel — Corrosion Resistance

Material Corrosion Resistance Suitable Environment
Carbon steel (zinc plated) Low — zinc coating sacrificial Indoor, dry environments only
Carbon steel (black oxide) Very low — cosmetic only Indoor, dry environments only
304 SS A2-70 (this product) High — passive oxide layer Outdoor, marine, food, chemical

Torx Pin Security Drive — Tamper Resistance

The six-lobe Torx drive provides higher torque transfer than Phillips or slotted drives, reducing cam-out and driver damage. The addition of a centre pin in the socket:

  • Prevents standard Torx drivers from engaging — the pin blocks the standard Torx bit
  • Requires a pin-in-Torx (T* or TR) bit — a specialist bit with a hole in the centre to accommodate the pin
  • Deters casual tampering — standard tool kits do not include pin-in-Torx bits
  • Does not prevent authorised access — pin-in-Torx bits are readily available to maintenance personnel

Key Features

  • 304 A2-70 stainless steel — excellent corrosion resistance for outdoor, marine, and food-contact applications
  • Pin-in-Torx tamper-resistant drive — prevents removal with standard tools, deters vandalism and unauthorised access
  • Self-tapping thread — cuts its own thread in wood, plastic, and thin sheet metal
  • Pan head — low-profile domed head for surface-mount applications
  • M2.9–M4.8 range — covers light electronics through medium-duty outdoor fastening
  • 8–60mm lengths — wide range for different material thicknesses

Common Applications

  • Outdoor electrical enclosure and junction box fastening
  • Public signage and display fastening
  • Playground and outdoor furniture assembly
  • Marine and boat deck hardware
  • Security camera and CCTV enclosure fastening
  • Vending machine and kiosk panel fastening
  • EV charging station enclosure fastening
  • Food processing equipment fastening (stainless steel required)

Required Driver Bit

These screws require a pin-in-Torx (T* or TR) security bit for installation and removal. Common sizes for M2.9–M4.8 screws are T10*, T15*, T20*, and T25*. Standard Torx bits (without the centre hole) will not engage these screws.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I remove these screws with a standard Torx driver?
A: No. The centre pin prevents standard Torx drivers from seating in the socket. You need a pin-in-Torx (T* or TR) security bit with a centre hole to accommodate the pin.

Q: Are these suitable for saltwater marine environments?
A: 304 stainless steel provides good corrosion resistance in marine environments but can pit in prolonged saltwater exposure. For continuous saltwater immersion, use 316 stainless steel (A4-70) instead.
