Popular option for expanding the number of logic outputs available on an MCU
DESCRIPTION
The 74HC595 8-Bit Shift Register is a popular option for expanding the number of logic outputs available on a uC
PACKAGE INCLUDES:
- 74HC595 8-Bit Shift Register
KEY FEATURES OF 74HC595 8-BIT SHIFT REGISTER:
- Used to expand output capability of uC
- 8-Bit Serial In / Parallel Out
- 3.3 and 5V compatible
The 74HC595 is an 8-bit serial in / parallel out shift register IC that is commonly used to extend the output capability of a uC when a lot of digital devices need to be controlled. Many projects
make use of this IC.
Data is shifted in serially and then latched on the chips 8 output pins in parallel. If more outputs are needed, multiple chips can be daisy-chained together, so 2 chips give 16 outputs and 3 chips give 24 outputs.
The part can operate from 2- 6V, so it is compatible with both 3.3 and 5V uCs.
These parts are the DIP version so they are breadboard friendly.
