AC Power Adapter — 12V DC / 2A, Universal Input, 5.5×2.1mm Barrel Plug
The 12V DC 2A AC power adapter is the standard power supply for LED strips, relay boards, motor drivers, CCTV cameras, and any project requiring a 12V DC supply at up to 2A. With a universal 100–240V AC input, it works worldwide without voltage adapters. The right-angle slim housing mounts parallel to the wall outlet or power strip, saving adjacent outlet space. The standard 5.5×2.1mm center-positive barrel plug connects directly to the vast majority of 12V electronics modules and development boards.
Key Specifications
| Input Voltage | 100–240V AC, 50/60Hz (universal) |
| Output Voltage (nominal) | 12V DC |
| Output Voltage (measured) | 12.4V no load → 12.2V @ 1A → 11.7V @ 2A |
| Output Current (max) | 2A continuous (recommended: ≤1.5A for best stability) |
| Output Ripple | 150–350mV (varies with load; best below 1.5A) |
| DC Plug | 5.5mm O.D. × 2.1mm I.D. barrel (center positive) |
| Cable Length | ~97cm (38″) |
| Housing | Right-angle slim, saves outlet space |
Performance Notes
Output regulation is good across the load range — voltage stays within 5% of nominal from no-load to 2A. Output ripple is 150mV at light loads, rising to ~250mV at 1.5A and ~350mV at full 2A load. For best performance, keep load at or below 1.5A — the adapter runs cooler and ripple remains lower. For projects requiring only 5V or 3.3V via a linear regulator, the 7.5V 1A adapter is a better choice as it minimizes regulator heat dissipation.
12V vs 7.5V Adapter — Which to Choose?
- 7.5V 1A adapter: Best for Arduino boards, breadboard power supply modules, and linear regulator projects (3.3V–6V output) — minimizes heat in onboard regulators
- 12V 2A adapter (this): Best for LED strips (WS2812B, 5050), relay boards, stepper motor drivers (A4988, DRV8825), CCTV cameras, solenoid valves, and any load requiring 12V directly or higher current
Typical Applications
- LED strip power supply — WS2812B, 5050 RGB, and single-color LED strips (12V type)
- Relay board power supply — 12V relay coil supply for 4/8/16-channel relay modules
- Stepper motor driver supply — A4988, DRV8825, TMC2208 motor power rail (12V)
- CCTV and IP camera power — standard 12V DC power for security cameras
- Solenoid valve and actuator supply — 12V solenoid coil power
- DC-DC converter input — 12V input for buck converters (LM2596, XL4016) stepping down to 5V/3.3V
- Electronics lab bench supply — general-purpose 12V / 2A regulated DC source
- 3D printer heated bed and hotend power — 12V supply for RepRap-style printers
Compatibility
The 5.5×2.1mm center-positive barrel plug is the universal DC power connector standard, compatible with Arduino Uno/Mega DC jacks, most relay modules, LED strip controllers, DC-DC converter modules, CCTV cameras, and the vast majority of 12V electronics worldwide.
Package Contents
