IR Emitter Module — 940nm, Digital Output, Arduino (KY-005 Compatible)

The 940nm infrared (IR) emitter module is the essential transmitter component for IR remote control, obstacle detection, and optical communication projects. Emitting at 940nm wavelength — the standard wavelength for consumer IR remote controls and IR sensors — this module is compatible with virtually all IR receiver modules and IR sensor ICs, including the TSOP series and VS1838B.

Compatible with the popular KY-005 IR emitter module pinout, this module integrates directly into Arduino sensor kits. The digital control interface allows the IR LED to be pulsed at the carrier frequency required for IR remote control protocols (typically 38kHz) using Arduino’s IRremote library.

Key Features

  • 940nm wavelength — standard IR wavelength; compatible with all common IR receivers and sensors
  • KY-005 compatible pinout — direct integration with Arduino sensor kits
  • Digital control interface — on/off and PWM control via Arduino digital output pin
  • Pre-installed current-limiting resistor — no external resistor required
  • 3-pin module format — VCC, GND, Signal; breadboard and sensor shield compatible
  • IRremote library compatible — send NEC, Sony, RC5, and other IR protocols

How to Use with Arduino

  • Connect VCC to Arduino 5V, GND to GND, Signal to a digital output pin
  • Use the IRremote Arduino library to send IR remote control codes
  • For obstacle detection: pair with an IR receiver module; detect reflected IR from nearby objects
  • For optical communication: pulse the IR LED at a known frequency and detect with an IR receiver

Typical Applications

  • IR remote control transmission — send NEC, Sony, RC5, and other IR remote control codes
  • Obstacle and proximity detection — pair with IR receiver for reflective obstacle detection
  • Optical communication — pulsed IR for simple optical data transmission
  • Arduino sensor kit projects — KY-005 compatible for 37-in-1 sensor kit projects
  • Robotics and automation — IR-based proximity and line detection
