Default Title

LM2596 Adjustable DC-DC Step-Down Voltage Regulator with LED Voltmeter Display

A versatile LM2596-based buck converter module with an integrated LED voltmeter display, allowing real-time monitoring of input or output voltage without an external multimeter. Output voltage is continuously adjustable from 1.25V to 37V via onboard −/+ buttons, making it ideal as a variable bench power supply, Arduino project power module, or embedded voltage regulator.

Specifications

  • Input Voltage: DC 4V – 40V
  • Output Voltage: 1.25V – 37V (continuously adjustable; input must be ≥1V above output)
  • Output Current: 2A continuous, 3A peak
  • Switching Frequency: ~150kHz
  • Output Ripple: ~100mV peak
  • Voltmeter Range: 4V – 40V (±0.1V accuracy)
  • Display: Red LED 3-digit voltmeter
  • PCB Size: 66 × 35mm
  • Operating Temperature: −40°C to +85°C

Voltmeter Display Operation

  • Two buttons on the left side of the voltmeter switch between input voltage display (red LED indicator) and output voltage display (green LED indicator)
  • − button: Decreases output voltage
  • + button: Increases output voltage
  • Remove the P3 jumper cap to disable the voltmeter display and reduce quiescent current

Wiring

  • IN+ → Positive supply input (4–40V DC)
  • IN− → Negative supply input (GND)
  • OUT+ → Regulated positive output
  • OUT− → Regulated negative output (GND)

Important Notes

  • Input voltage must be at least 1V higher than the desired output voltage (buck/step-down only — cannot boost)
  • For voltmeter accuracy, ensure input voltage is above 4V
  • Add a heatsink to the LM2596 IC when operating near 3A or with large voltage differentials
  • Output ripple of ~100mV may affect sensitive analog circuits — add output capacitance if needed

Typical Applications

  • Variable bench power supply (1.25–37V adjustable)
  • Arduino and ESP32 project power regulation
  • 12V/24V to 5V conversion for USB and microcontroller power
  • Solar panel charge controller input regulation
  • Battery-powered device voltage regulation
  • LED driver with adjustable current via voltage control
