The LM358 is the most widely used dual single-supply operational amplifier – two independent op-amps in a single DIP-8 package, designed to operate from a single supply voltage as low as 3V. Unlike the UA741 which requires a dual (±) supply, the LM358's input common-mode range extends to ground and its output swings to within millivolts of the negative rail, making it ideal for battery-powered circuits, sensor signal conditioning, and any application where a single supply is preferred.
