Electret Condenser Microphone 9.7mm — High Sensitivity, Omnidirectional
A large-format 9.7mm electret condenser microphone capsule with high sensitivity (-38dB) and omnidirectional polar pattern. The larger capsule diameter provides higher sensitivity and lower self-noise compared to smaller 4mm and 6mm capsules, making it ideal for applications requiring better audio quality, longer pickup range, or use in noisier environments.
The 9.7mm capsule is widely used in desktop microphones, conference systems, and higher-quality Arduino audio projects where the sensitivity advantage of a larger capsule is needed. Compatible with all standard electret microphone preamplifier circuits including MAX4466, MAX9812, and LM386-based designs.
Key Specifications
- Capsule diameter: 9.7mm | Polar pattern: Omnidirectional
- Sensitivity: -38dB ±3dB (at 1kHz, 1Pa) | Frequency response: 20Hz–20kHz
- Operating voltage: 1.5V–10V DC | Current consumption: <0.5mA
- Signal-to-noise ratio: >60dB | Output impedance: <2.2kΩ
- Termination: 2-pin (VCC/GND)
Why Choose 9.7mm?
- ✅ Higher sensitivity (-38dB) — better pickup than smaller 4mm/6mm capsules, ideal for longer-range voice detection
- ✅ Lower self-noise — larger diaphragm area provides better signal-to-noise ratio
- ✅ Wider frequency response — more natural audio reproduction across the full 20Hz–20kHz range
- ✅ Standard electret interface — compatible with all standard preamplifier circuits
Typical Applications
- Desktop and conference microphone builds
- Arduino voice detection and speech recognition projects
- Custom microphone preamplifier circuits (MAX4466, LM386)
- Sound level monitoring in noisy environments
- Intercom and PA system microphone elements
- Higher-quality DIY condenser microphone builds
